What it is

Understanding iridology

Iridology is practiced in some naturopathic and complementary-wellness settings. Practitioners examine the iris, sometimes using magnification or photographs, and may compare observed features with charts that associate regions of the iris with parts of the body. These interpretations are not part of conventional eye examination or established medical diagnostic practice.

A typical experience

What you may experience

A practitioner may photograph or visually examine the eyes and discuss patterns they believe relate to constitution, lifestyle or health. An iridology session should be clearly distinguished from an examination by an optometrist or ophthalmologist and from validated medical testing.

Common reasons people explore iridology

Research context

Evidence & context

Controlled research has not shown iridology to be a reliable method for diagnosing disease or identifying the condition of internal organs. Yoga Pagoda includes iridology because people offer and search for the practice, not because inclusion validates diagnostic claims.

Safety & questions to consider

Iridology should not be used to diagnose disease, rule out a medical condition, determine whether treatment is necessary or replace appropriate eye and medical examinations.

Important information

This guide is educational, not medical advice.

Yoga Pagoda is a discovery and information platform, not a medical provider. Inclusion of iridology in our directory does not mean Yoga Pagoda endorses the practice, a practitioner, a treatment or a health claim. The level of scientific evidence, regulation and professional standards can differ substantially among wellness practices and jurisdictions.

Use this guide as a starting point. For health decisions, consider independent evidence, practitioner qualifications, risks, alternatives and advice from an appropriately qualified healthcare professional when relevant.
